    • Hi Laurie, here is what the wiki site says: “The homestead’s field stone house, called Lanark Place after Motherwell’s previous Ontario home, is modelled after similar farmsteads built in Ontario.” Fieldstone is one of the oldest building materials along with river rock used for the first homes built by the settlers to Canada. Fieldstone is still a popular choice for exterior home stone siding and interior projects. Hope this helps. Our meditation spiral in the front yard is made from stones we picked along the gravel road ditches and from fields. Field stone is abundant in this country and would have made an inexpensive building material 110 years ago.
